At 10, my “novel” for a school assignment was also published by the Sue Sorensen Publishing Company…apparently my business acumen was in early development. Soon after came the shift from writing fiction to studying literature, the best way to understand great writing as well as the process of analysis and discovery of symbolism, truth, core meanings. Those early skills have been valuable in my work. Observing, listening, analyzing, understanding context – and partnering with organizational leaders to define their differentiated strategy, brand, content, messaging – or counsel through a crisis into recovery. The experience gained from working in large and mid-sized public, private and nonprofit sectors, for B2B and B2C organizations, has sharpened my ability to deliver strategic and innovative programming that’s truthful, succinct and influential. In corporate settings, I’ve held the roles of SVP & Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at Ecumen, SVP & Partner at Fleishman Hillard, and Chief Communications Officer, Dayton’s/Hudson’s/ Marshall Field’s, advising on communications strategies and partnering on business and organizational growth plans.
